An adequate food source will keep wildlife in your area; therefore they will live longer, and reproduce healthier young. Perennials do not produce very much top growth or seed the first year. They put all their strength into producing a good sturdy root structure for survival. Annuals, on the other hand, reproduce only from seed rather than the root. Therefore, they will produce good top growth and seed the same year planted. Adequate moisture and sunlight are essential for good seed production.
